CHOCK AUR CHARPAI

‘Chowk And Charpai: An Urban Living Room’ captures the multi-sensory essence of a contemporary Indian city chowk- an open market located at a junction of streets. The exhibition was enhanced with the traditional puppetry (kathputli) show about climate change.

Our Story

It also featured terracotta cups made from the earth of India adorning its façade. these cups provided visitors with a unique opportunity to physically connect with India by touching the cups themselves. Winning the second price added to the honour of being the face of the India Pavilion at the global biennale.

Our Story

As Designers we have the power of storytelling, which is a powerful tool to evoke dreams and memories. We processed the overwhelming feeling of loss and violence, inspiring a collective remembrance built on the foundation of loss.

My Role was scenography. The performance features a conversation between a child and war puppet, questioning the idea of war. The child innocent and unaware of war's implications, asks the puppet innocent questions about its appearance and actions. As their dialogue unfolds, the puppet's darkness transforms into brighter colours and smaller size, reflecting the child's innocence.

The viewers enters through a passage, with plastic and red cloth wrapped around bamboo sticks. as the wind blows, the structure sways as if it would uproot and land at the viewers face, making them feel uneasy. They also see concreate blocks, looking like catacombs. Lying around them are causalities of war. at the end of the passage, the light shine so bright, the viewer feels blindsided.
